Laptop Encryption Project
Every week there are news reports of breaches of Private Information; breaches that can lead to identity theft. Many of these breaches occur as a result of the theft or loss of laptops. Laptop encryption protects information and can provide an effective means of reducing risk.
The RIT Information Security Office is working with campus support organizations to encrypt laptops that may contain RIT Confidential Information, including Private Information that can be used for identity theft. High risk desktop computers may also be encrypted as part of the project.
The encryption project is being piloted at NTID and in Finance and Administration.
